In collaboration with Elisa Palm as part of a residency hosted by De Verffabriek and with further support from European Youth Capital.
SPEELPLAATS took place in an under used residential green space in the vicinity of the artist-run space De Verffabriek. Having been offered a residency there, and in recognition of their lack of social and neighbourhood engagement, we wanted to initiate a project that builds connections with the residents of Mariakerke, whilst building a temporary use for this local park.
We hosted a series of workshops over the summer months, coming together with residents to reflect on what characterises the post-industrial suburb in present times, and to imagine and ignite a future for public space within the neighbourhood.
